about

“Playing in Hell” is a one-act ballet in two scenes adapted from a poem of the same name by Velimir Khlebnikov and Alexey Kruchenykh and incorporating elements from “The Key Words”, a poetic cycle by the Czech philosopher Egon Bondy.

The ballet is an abstract parable about a man trying to run from himself.
The protagonist, having a keen sense of absurdity and pointlessness of the daily routine, takes on a desperate experiment – he descends into Hell. Unwittingly he becomes a part of it and submerges into intoxicating thoughts and fantasies. The only thing that distracts him is the sudden appearance of a trickster female spirit who asks him for help and suggests them to flee together. Inspired by the idea of saving her, he looks for a way out, but is not able to find it. Eventually the protagonist realizes that there is no escape and that it all was her cruel game.

The ballet is performed by an Orchestra of Synthesizers
